John Oscar Williams was born in Forest, Mississippi May 18th, 1944 and passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2008. Son of Eddie E. Williams, Sr. and Esther Ward Williams. John was the fifth child of eight children.
He graduated from South High School in 1962. Graduated from Westminster College in 1986. John and Judith were on KXXX Talk Radio in 1968. In 1971 John ran for Mayor of Salt Lake City and also ran for City Commissioner. In his youth John organized the Junior N.A.A.C.P. Throughout his life, he continued to be passionate of all social issues. John was employed with U.S. Postal Service for 23 years. He married Judith Lawrence on August 1, 1965, later divorced. He married JoAnne Shuman on September 26, 1976, later divorced.
Preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish and honor his memory his only child, Tiffany F. Sawyer (Redd) Grandchildren, Malik and Tawn Sawyer. Sisters and brothers, Carolyn (Lloyd) Bass, Esther Patricia (Clyde) Jones, Percy W. Williams, Eddie E. Williams, Jr., Robert V. (Beverlee) Williams, Richard W. Williams, Paul K. (Sue) Williams, His only aunt, Omega C. Davis of Laurel, Mississippi. A host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church (1090 South State Street) Monday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m. Visitations 30 minutes prior to Service.
